TIME TO DANCE SKA

Conceived by musician and producer Sérgio Soffiatti and trumpeter Felippe Pipeta in 2005, OBMJ only came to life in 2008. The initial idea was to play Jamaican roots music, ska, rocksteady and early reggae, but soon came the idea of playing classics from the Brazilian in these styles. In the repertoire, attention is drawn to a lively version of “O Guarani”, by Carlos Gomes, and of other songs such as “Águas de Março”, “Barquinho”, “Samba de Verão” and “Garota de Ipanema”. The OBMJ goes further and turns choro into a ska in “Carinhoso” by Pixinguinha and “Ticotico no Fubá” by Zequinha de Abreu. Brazilian music with a nice balance of early reggae, ska and rocksteady, Jamaican root rhythms.
